Add-On Shares

If you can’t get enough of local food, think about signing up for one or more of our add-on shares! Some of these shares are produced by us and others are sourced from local, vetted growers. You may buy them in addition to your CSA or on their own.

Types of Add-On Shares

WEEKLY These shares run the full 22-week Summer CSA season (unless otherwise noted) with no hiatus weeks:

  • Berry Share - 12 weeks in Summer only; from Agriberry and their partner farmers, all Virginia and North Carolina farms. Each week, you will receive a farmer's choice combo of pint-, pound-, or half-pint- containers (usually 2 per week but sometimes 1 and rarely 3) of strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, or a mix. This share runs from the beginning of the veggie CSA in May until mid Summer.

  • Dairy Shares - Available Summer, Fall, & Off-Season. Choose from the following ‘a la carte’ dairy share options:

    • Cheese Share - 2 farmer’s choice local cheeses per week: 1 hard cheese from either Shenandoah Valley Family Farms or Virginia Fresh (cheddars & jack cheeses), 1 rotating goat cheese from Caromont Farm (i.e. plain or flavored chevre, possibly other specialty items like Boucheron-style, aged, or feta when available.)

    • Milk Share - 1/2 gallon milk from Shenandoah Valley Farm Farms at a discount rate.

    • Yogurt Share - one 32 oz yogurt from Pequea Valley Farms in southern PA. Choose either plain or flavored. Very creamy, delicious yogurt.

  • Egg Share - Available Summer, Fall, & Off-Season; 1 dozen eggs from Bellair Farm each week at the 10% off retail price.

  • Fruit Share - Available Summer & Fall (starts around mid-June when the tree fruit starts coming in). This share includes a weekly fruit items from partner vendors in the Charlottesville area and Shenandoah Valley. Primary fruits are peaches and nectarines in the early season and apples and Asian pears in the late season. The share may also include smaller quantities of specialty fruits such as table and/or wine grapes, plums, cherries, figs, and berries depending on farmer availability.

  • Flower Share - 15 weeks Summer/early Fall; (start date TBD, but approximately late June). Flower share members get one large bouquet of freshly picked and carefully arranged flowers (approx 15-25 stems) once a week. Varieties include cosmos, amaranth, zinnias, sunflowers, bachelor's button, marigolds, and more — all grown right here at Bellair. These flowers come beautifully wrapped to bring home or gift.

  • Half or Full Pound Mushroom Shares - Available Summer & Fall; A bag of primarily shiitake mushrooms from Schofield Farms (Dinwiddie, VA). When available, we will try to include king oyster, lion's mane, pioppini, etc.

MONTHLY (6 months, May-October) We generally distribute these the last week of the month, and they will have their own accompanying reminder or selection email:

  • Carnivore Share (year-round) - 10% off Bellair Farm eggs, beef, pork, chicken, and bone broth; Spring Creek Meadows ground turkey, chicken, and occasionally duck, Meadows Pride lamb

  • Monthly Herb Kits (May-Oct) - from Gathered Threads in Nelson Co., VA. Two kit options to choose from: Herbs for the Kitchen or Tea and Wellness shares. Each box may include a selection of teas, herbs, spice packets, DIY kits, and other herbal products.

  • Culture Share (May-Oct) - 2 pint jars of Gathered Threads cultured (aka fermented) vegetables a month, typically 1 pint of a cabbage based culture and 1 that is cabbage-free each month.

OFf-SEASON/Winter Shares

Off-season shares run the full off-season, after Thanksgiving through early May (right before Summer CSA starts). No distribution during holiday weeks.

  • Egg Share - 1 dozen eggs from Bellair Farm each week for 10% off the retail rate.

  • Milk Share - 1/2 gallon of organic, non-homogenized A2 milk from the Shenandoah Valley;

  • Yogurt Share - one 32 oz yogurt (your choice or plain or farmer’s choice flavored) from Pequea Valley Farms in southern PA. Very creamy, delicious yogurt!

How to Purchase

Currently available add-ons will be displayed in the online store. You do NOT have to be a Veggie CSA Member to sign up for an Add-On share! Add-On Share members also get member discounts: 20% off produce and 10% off eggs.

The main rule about add-on shares is that we need them to be picked up at the location you selected at check out. This information is saved under “Account Information” in the main menu of the online marketplace. If you need to change your location, email us and we can do it for you. Annoyingly, the system won't let you change it after you've signed up.
